Testimonials
"I had been out of formal composition study for some time when I began with you. I feel that my skills, which had rusted during the non-study period, have been restored thanks to the rigors of our regular composition meetings. There are certain aspects, such as the conceptual component of my work and how it relates to the music itself, that I think have developed greatly under your mentorship. For example, I wrote a brass ensemble piece before our mentorship began that was premiered during our mentorship. Listening to the piece and viewing the score together reminded me how my work has changed since I began studying with you." – Jude Duane
"Saad has been one of the most supportive mentors I have ever had. He is an extremely compassionate and patient person and has always been very supportive of me whenever I have experienced difficulties in my life. He is able to provide emotional support as well as helping you find strategies to dive back into your compositional work and maintain motivation to achieve your goals. Saad is extremely level-headed and makes sure to help you stay on track while encouraging you to take care of yourself and your needs. I have never worked with anybody quite like him and he makes a point to continue to support his students throughout college and beyond. He is truly always there if you need him." – Amelia Horney
"When Saad looked at my work-in-progress choral piece, and said 'I am not exactly sure what the piano is supposed to be doing here.' After I explained to him what I had in mind, he immediately understood, and said 'ok, why don't you think about doing x, y and z to see if you can make it more robust and logical.' Numerous instances of suggestions like that which set me off on what I immediately felt like was the right path, and exactly what that piece was missing. Saad is very versatile in various musical "aesthetics", and I feel like he helps me to unlock my specific, personal potential, rather than pushing me down any specific aesthetic path. That is hugely valuable." – Sasha Kryuchkov
"I was feeling overwhelmed with an audition assignment when applying for an undergraduate composition program, but Saad guided me through the questions and processes, breaking everything down clearly and making it feel much less intimidating. After just one lesson with Saad, I became much more confident about my application, and was able to achieve great results. The concepts that Saad introduced in our lesson has propelled me forward in exploring new projects more boldly." – Christina Qu
“Saad's attention to not only detail, but open and down to earth way of answering questions…ask those questions you fear are "stupid or common sense", as he will answer them clearly without judgment.” – Bradley Fletcher
"The one-on-one advice is extremely valuable. Being able to ask questions about your piece or any other pertinent questions and get specific responses is so helpful. Along with this, the accountability and structure is fantastic. Saad will push you to be the best composer that you can be without pushing his own opinions and aesthetics on you. He genuinely wants to help you to write your own individual music." – London Scholle
"I feel more legitimate as a composer and my mindset is healthier. We all have self-doubts and insecurities, and a good teacher can accelerate us into a space of confidence that enables greater joy in learning. Saad has helped give me this confidence.” – Melissa Orr
"Saad tailors his lessons specifically to each student, identifying what needs to be worked on with regards to your specific style of writing. He is very keen not only to understand your style but to learn how you developed as a composer in regards to your previous works. This is always reassuring in lessons as you feel that his advice is very relevant and applicable to your work, rather than a repeated and regurgitated statement that many teachers will give you." – William Sukkar
"Having tried other online composition teachers, you stand out above them all as you really take time to give relevant material that helps the student in areas they need to grow." – Tinashe Jera
"When you heard about some of the struggles that I have had with composition you were immediately able to know why and convey the reasons for them in the first lesson. Which I thought was interesting and insightful." – Bailey Philips
